What You Want To Know About Small Dogs!
All About Small Dogs
Small dog breeds are quite popular today, with many dog
owners opting for the toy breeds as a pet. They are great pets,
but since their personalities are all different, it's a good
idea to look at their individual characteristics to see if they
fit with your lifestyle.
Over the course of time more and more new breeds have been
created by selectively breeding dogs with a certain external
appearance and certain character traits:
- Pomeranians developed from a much larger dog breed and seem
to have retained the mellow character.
- Jack Russel Terrier are only for active owners, because this
small dog loves to chase balls, can hop onto a table with ease
and can be aggressive if not trained properly.
- Bichon Frise makes a good small family dog.
- Chihuahuas are an interesting small dog. They can be very
aggressive towards other dog breeds.
- Good with children and other animals, the Boston terrier is a
good small dog for families.
- Skype Terrier are great with children, okay with other dogs
but not tolerant of cats.
- Maltesers are not suitable for families with children because
they are very fragile.
- Pekinese are Very fierce and loyal, these small dogs are not
good around children or other animals.
- Dachshunds are good with family members but this small dog
will become aggressive to children outside the family.
Small dogs does not need to be overly protected. It is untrue
that small dogs are more susceptible to disease just because
they are small. Maintaining control over your dog will help you
alleviate any serious injury from dog attacks.
Smaller dogs tend to have the "small dog' syndrome, in that,
they tend to be more aggressive when facing another dog.
No matter what size dog you get, your pet's health is just as
important as their happiness. Make sure to get their regular
check ups, keep their vaccinations up to date, and get a
regular dental check up.
Breed standards in every breed describe from head to toe,
height, weight, general appearance and character traits. A
breed standard specifies how the ideal representative of each
breed should look.
One last thing you should know about dogs together with kids. A
note of caution: parents must warn their children to never put
their face in front of a dog. Because dogs can get spooked and
snap, which could result in severe medical injuries, no matter
how big or small the dog is.
